The Championship

The first championship of its kind, built to strengthen young minds

Champions of Compassion brings the Kun Khmer championship to Mauritius. Compassion Unites treats sport as a domain of mental health in its own right, and it is the first time a championship has been designed to produce wellbeing that holds long after the crowd goes home.

  • World champions meet in the ring.
  • Homegrown musicians and a live DJ light up the complex.
  • Every young person watching sees, up close, what discipline, focus and the right support can build.

The Day

One afternoon, full of proof

From 1pm, the Cote d'Or National Sports Complex comes alive. Ten Kun Khmer bouts bring twenty athletes head to head before a national audience. Between the action:

Live performances from Denis Claude Gaspard, Warren Permal, and other artists

DJ Ejilen throughout the day

Finale gala and prize-giving

It is free, it is family-friendly, and it is open to all.

A Champion's Story

From Bambous to the world, and back to her community

Ranini Cundasawmy is a multiple-time Kun Khmer and Muay Thai world champion from Bambous. She was trained in mental resilience by Dr. Ishan Shivanand, and she now lifts the next generation, running free sessions for women and children in her own community and offering young people a stronger path forward.

She is at once an athlete the Compassion Unites model raised, and a force now raising others. Her story is an inspiration for the next generation.

How It Works

Compassion Unites is an infinity loop

Champions of Compassion runs on a model that keeps giving back. An athlete who trains in mental resilience competes with composure, and composure lifts performance. Strong performance earns recognition, and recognition opens real opportunities: a scholarship, a pathway, a future to build toward. Opportunity steadies wellbeing, and a settled mind returns to training as sharper focus.

The competitor who was once lifted becomes the mentor who lifts the next, and every young person raised can grow into someone who raises others. With each athlete and partner joining the infinity loop, the progress is faster, and the impact is higher.

1

Train in resilience

Composure built in practice, before it is ever tested.

2

Compete and perform

A settled mind lifts performance in the ring.

3

Earn recognition

Recognition opens a scholarship and a pathway forward.

4

Lift the next

The athlete once raised becomes the mentor who raises others.

A future worth wanting is built through presence, purpose and practice, and on this day it is within reach of everyone in the room.

A doorway to living a fulfilled life

The championship award unlocks a scholarship, access to opportunities, and continued support for mental resilience from Compassion Unites.

Lasting Impact

The day carries forward, long after the final bout

The event draws young people toward the resilience programs CU already runs in Mauritian schools with the Ministry of Education. The day is organised to inspire young people, and for them to have fun in a safe, alcohol-free environment.

It becomes an entry point into a life-long practice, a profession, and a route to maintain good mental health, and that is where the lasting impact is made.

Convened by Compassion Unites
